Sola was founded in Tokyo in November 2008. At the end of our first year we were a company of four people. Today, in 2026, more than 250 people work here.
In the early days, most of our work was for government agencies: building core IT infrastructure, planning migrations, and designing operations. From there we moved into web systems, PaaS, mobile apps, drones, e-commerce platforms, VR games, SaaS, and more.
At Sola we like to use a new technology ourselves before we sell it, so from the outside we may look like a company that does a bit of everything. But we don’t think of ourselves as specialists in one corner of IT. We are IT professionals, and we work across the whole field.
Right now, AI is our business. New technologies will keep arriving, and Sola’s business will keep changing with them. What I hope stays the same is that we remain a group of people who enjoy those changes and find a way through them.
Today we released Local AI, an app that runs AI models (LLMs) on your own computer. It is still in beta and very much a work in progress, but please give it a try.
