Bouquet in a Corporate Environment (Part 1 of 2)

Introduction

It’s hard to believe the last time we discussed Sola of America, Inc’s photo mosaic app—Bouquet—was back in May of this year. In that article and virtually every other article published on this website about Bouquet, it was geared towards personal use. And that’s fine. Many of Bouquet’s userbase focuses on sharing unique photo mosaics with friends and family either directly or via social media. But that got me thinking… what about using the app in a corporate environment? Over the years I’ve attended many different events. Offsite training, local teambuilding exercises, and national conferences, just to name a few. After these events, the company’s intranet site (employee-only internal website) featured a myriad of photos. Attendees and organizers alike flooded the pages in one-off articles or colleges, posted for everyone in the company to see and comment on.

For readers who have attended similar events, I don’t think I’m alone when I say that not all the photos were interesting or flattering. Even professional headshots cropped from the chest-up with a fresh haircut and tasteful makeup seem cliché after seeing hundreds of them on LinkedIn. This is where Bouquet makes for an interesting tool to help break away and delight users with something fresh. The best part? If used in a corporate environment the high-resolution export fee should be a deductible expense, thereby eliminating the need to come out of pocket personally.

Welcome to a 2-part series on Bouquet where we’ll be discussing using the platform to create original keepsakes during corporate events, and for reinventing the professional headshot. Let’s get into it!

Setting the Foundation

Disclosure: the mosaics used in this article are not of a corporate event and are strictly used for illustrative purposes.

As the title of this section indicates, in this article I wanted to discuss how to establish the foundation within Bouquet for producing the corporate event photos. In my own experience, events can take place in as little as a few hours or be spread out over the course of several days. If the event takes place in a single day, the company photographer (possibly someone from Human Resources) or hired photographer may have a batch as small as a hundred photos to work with. Larger multi-day events may yield hundreds of photos from various sub-events during training or celebratory dinners. In the case of a multi-day event, a reasonable best practice would be to divide out ‘piece’ photos by sub-events. In that way the ‘piece’ photos from each part of the day will towards generating mosaics pertaining only to that sub-event.

While it’s not strictly necessary, I think having ‘piece’ photos directly related to the generated mosaic gives it more meaning. Mosaics of colleagues and coworkers from a luncheon will use actual photos from the luncheon in their production, and so on. For simpler mosaic production, it might be easiest to select the top 50 photos from the day instead of selecting from hundreds. As we’ve covered in previous articles, primary (parent) images tend to be color diverse. This means the more colors and backgrounds represented in the piece images, the better the final mosaic will look.

Color Diversity

For example: if a parent image contains lots of yellow from a brightly colored shirt or dress, and there are only two ‘piece’ images with yellow, Bouquet will have no choice but to re-use those two yellow-colored ‘piece’ images extensively when constructing the mosaic. This fact may not be immediately noticeable if you choose a high piece count (i.e. N = 1000+ pieces), but on lower piece count mosaics your eye will notice the repeated images. This can detract from the overall quality and should be avoided.

Reusing the Foundation(s)

You may have noticed there is a (s) at the end of Foundation in the section title. This is because multi-day or longer single-day events might be broken up into sections. It’s common to attend a presentation from say, 8am – 9:30pm, then a break, followed by another presentation, then lunch. If that’s the case, splitting the ‘piece’ photo sets into event-specific groups might be best for consistency. One set of foundation images might contain photos taken of guests and presenters for both presentations, and another set at lunch to distinguish the events.

Once the foundation piece images are established, new mosaics can be created in only a few seconds by tapping 1. Image at the top of the app. Bouquet’s Memory Store and Memory Restore function allows the user to save a Workspace, where all a mosaic’s elements are preserved. This means the ‘piece’ images, parent image, filters, effects, number of pieces (N) used in the mosaic, everything. Users should find this feature particularly useful when generating multiple mosaics of individual people or other memorable moments. Creating a unique mosaic of each co-worker in attendance is as simple as having all the parent images loaded onto the device or in a Google Photos account, then selecting the next parent image.

As each new mosaic automatically generates by tapping the Fit Pieces button, mosaics of individual attendees can then be exported directly from the device. It might be best to export mosaics to a linked cloud-based folder in the spirit of simplicity.

Reminder: the high-resolution export purchase price is good for 30 days, increasing the purchase value for periods of high export volumes—like the one mentioned above.
