Autofill Passwords with accoca

Introduction

Password vaults help facilitate two functions. The first function increases the user’s account security, which can span tens if not hundreds of usernames and passwords. The second function combines the increased security from the first function with convenience. Specifically, the convenience of notattempting to memorize all those unique combinations of usernames and passwords. Full stop—as they say. Previous accoca articles described the importance of creating strong passwords to protect digital assets. Those articles are linked below in typical Sola fashion.

This article focuses on the second function of password vaults—convenience. Accoca is currently available on the Apple App Store for all platforms but keep in mind the app’s data is locally stored as an increased security measure. That means any information accessed by accoca takes place at the local device level and will not automatically transfer to other devices. In plain terms, if the user owns both an iPhone or iPad, choosing the device used most frequently for accessing accounts serves as the best practice. Adjusting the AutoFill & Passwords settings on your device, the user can select accoca as the preferred password vault for retrieving stored data. Afterwards, visiting a website where accoca holds the login credentials will autofill at the user’s input. Let’s get into it!

Previous Articles

Below are links to some of Sola’s other articles about accoca. The articles take less than 5 minutes to read and help provide insight into both the purpose of accoca as an app and how to generate difficult to hack passwords.

Where to Download

accoca is available on the Apple App Store—linked below. A couple of key features to note: the app is free to use and Sola of America, Inc. does not collect any personal data from app users. For those wanting to unlock unlimited entries, OCR text detection, and customizable, auto-generated passwords, accoca offers a $7.99 lifetime purchase price. The fully unlocked version can be restored on another device by logging in with the same AppleID.

Reading the Quick Start Guide is Helpful?!

Upon first downloading and opening the accoca app, at the top of the list of pre-generated password categories is the Quick Start Guide marked with a star icon. The three sets of instructions are:

  1. Introduction to accoca
  2. Automatically fill in a saved password
  3. Backup recommendations

Tapping on Automatically fill in a saved password takes the user to a set of instructions. The modified version below more closely matches the actual settings names.

  1. Go to Settings on your Apple device
  2. Tap General, marked by the gear icon
  3. Tap AutoFill & Passwords
  4. Move the slider to the right under AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys
  5. Locate accoca from the list of password apps and activate the slider

Done! Yes, it really is that simple. Now your device will automatically pull in saved usernames, passwords, and passkeys stored in the accoca app.

Example Login

As the author of these articles, I try and personally test any app features before writing about them. The goal here is to streamline user convenience, not reduce it. In my testing, I used a relatively innocuous login credential for a previous Active & Fit Direct subscription. For those unaware, Active and Fit Direct is a gym membership platform used by some companies to provide health benefits beyond core insurance like health, vision, and dental. Sola of America, Inc. is not affiliated with Active and Fit Direct in any way. Considering these articles are available to the public, it seemed like a better alternative than a banking app as an example login.

After navigating to the homepage, I clicked Login. When prompted for the username, Apple suggested it as shown in the screen captures below. Above the top row of letters for the onscreen keyboard, tapping the text filled in both the username and password fields automatically. If you ever want to stop Apple’s ‘key’ feature from referencing data stored in accoca, simply follow the steps under the ‘Quick Start’ heading of this article. Untoggling either accoca itself or the AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys feature entirely will shut down its use.

Conclusion

The unlocked version of accoca allows for unlimited username and password slots. As discussed in previous articles, taking advantage of the strong password generator within the app avoids the unnecessary risk of using weak passwords. Weak passwords come in a variety of types and lengths. Common elements include the use of personally identifiable information like first name, last name, birthdays, anniversaries, and easily guessable strings of characters like “12345” tacked onto the end of another common element.

The strongest passwords contain random uppercase and lowercase letters with numbers and symbols mixed throughout in an illogical order. Using accoca’s settings, these generated passwords can be customized to the user’s preferred character length, and whether numbers and symbols are included. While uncommon, some platforms restrict the user from incorporating special symbols. Changing the settings allows the user to generate strong passwords while complying with the platform’s requirements.
